Eco textile certification has two concepts:
1.Full ecological textiles: this is based on European ECO-LABEL as representative of all ECO textiles, they are qualified of production, consumption and processing that meet the ecological chain of textile market.
2.Narrow sense textiles: It represented by international ECO textile research and Testing Association, OEKO-TEX 100 and CQC eco textiles certification. Using environmentally friendly or less harmful raw materials to produce textiles that are not able to harmful human health and make reasonable restrictions or bans on harmful substances in the products.
The influential eco textile certification comes from the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 that issued by international society for eco textile research and inspection in 1991.
It emphasizes the used of waste disposal, process of ecological production and the product should harmless to users. German Haines Institute and Austria textile research institute jointly developed the certification standards.
It is the most authoritative and influential eco textile label in the world. The certificated products are the highest level of safety textiles.
These eco textiles focus on controlling harmful dyes, formaldehyde, finishing agents, odors and other optimized substances.
WOOLMARK certification and functional certification also belong to narrow sense of ecological certification.
It is the earliest textile mark in CHINA, the international wool Bureau carried out the certifications of eco textile in 1980.
It separates into ‘pure wool mark’, ‘high proportion blending mark’ and ‘wool blended mark’.
The wool fiber content of all kinds of wool mark is leveled as below:
1.Pure wool mark: it requires no less than 93% of wool fiber.
2.High proportion blended mark: the wool content is not less than 50%.
3.Wool blends: The wool content should between 35~50%.
WOOL-MARK logo has a certain authority in the market but it was testing by the local technical and quality supervision departments. The logo is the reference when people go shopping.
The functional certification marks issued by authoritative organizations and it is the link between manufacturers and customers.
Currently, the common functional certification is Teflon, Scotchgard, silver ion antibacterial, COOLMAX etc.
